Building Magento business by stealing stuff, asia-connect.com.vn knows how

Seems like some people have no ethical limits. Today our marketing expert got my attention on article he came across on internet. Seems like asia-connect.com.vn people enjoy copy-paste techniques. I will not even include link to their site since it disgust me to even direct people to such sites. Below is a screenshot of entire page I came across. “Their article” can be found on link http://asia-connect.com.vn/2009/09/create-a-color-switcher-in-magento/.

Here is my original article that I wrote for company I work for, Inchoo.

And another one that got stolen from this site:

Here is the original.

Not sure what else to say. Just wanted to point out this. Hopefully future customers (clients) in search for development company will come across this post and pay attention.

I am off to coffee, need to calm down :)

Cheers.

Absolutely deplorable. Keep up the great work guys!
  • What a shame! True Asian Piracy. They have absolutely no idea what is private property over there.
  • I had a similar instance a few months ago. Someone called our site and asked to talk to the developer. Turns out a company in China had listed our website as one of their portfolio items. This person was just calling and checking it out! It simply means you have content they only wish they could do on their own.

Yeah, suspicious. Perhaps you should ask them to remote all the articles no?
I see they added "From Inchoo.net" now but without link.

there is a Russian site that showcases my work as theirs portfolio, I didn't take any action as the link goes directly to my demo site.
  • I came across Asia Connect's site a month ago and the looked like a very low quality company. This post confirms the suspicions I've had about them.

    Branko,

Thanks for calling attention to this problem. This company looked bad from day 1 and it's a blatant example of what NOT to do. I hope someone from Varien picks up on this.

Having followed your posts for about a year, it's no doubt you're one of the most informative Magento experts out there. Your ability to break down Magento's capabilities in an easy-to-understand format has enabled me - and thousands of others like me - to accelerate the learning curve and unlock more of Magento's potential.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. Bull shit! Just keep up the great work. Your knowledge (and willingness to share it) certainly do not go unappreciated!

as long as Roy is not interested to his extension builders..many will steal code.

Others even steal code and encrypt it ;) like http://www.mageext.com/
  • As Eugene says, Asia Connect had already come to my attention when their "free cms block" extension popped up on Magento Connect, looking an awful lot like the Z-Blocks extension from AheadWorks. For some time, there was a game of cat and mouse where AW would post a review of the extension and allege copyright infringement, and then AC would delete the extension listing and create a new one. I'd like to see user accounts on magentocommerce.com that are engaging in this sort of behaviour closed.
  • well said!
  • Branko,

They can clone your work as much as they like, but a simple "magento god" still links to your site (although 4th result :P)

I wouldn't sweat too much over this cloners/clowns as they are shooting themselves in the foot. They can't come up with original content and when the clients are going to come and ask them for some heavy duty stuff they won't be able to deliver since chances are they don't understand what they copy/paste, thus going out of business.

Your tutorials are the only ones that have any meaning with regards to Magento. Keep up the good work!

    Regards,
    Romeo
  • Moreover, they cloned our extension and tried to sell it :)
  • My friend runs a hosting company and he had definitely much more amusing encounter with a person who cloned his website. That guy used display:none to hide few things and hardcoded few paragraphs of text, but you could still see everything in the source - including cross-domain links and GA... After a long and scary phonecall my friend found out that his anti-talented thief is 16 and (obviously) lives with mom(;
  • It's never nice to see that the content on which you've spent lots of time and effort writing is simply copied without asking or even giving a link back.
